Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs, armed with the latest Internet knowledge and skills, are a huge asset to California's economy and can help it grow by extending its reach into new markets throughout North, Central and South America-anywhere that Spanish is spoken. Among the 25 percent of Californians who consider Spanish their primary language, there are many among them who are entrepreneurs. Like so many other people who struggle with the rapid evolution of the Internet, these Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs are equally challenged by the fast pace of Internet technology and how it ultimately impacts their businesses.
In an effort to bridge the information and technology gap, the New Media & Entertainment Initiative hosted Tecnificate; a five-hour Internet seminar, in Spanish, held at Los Angeles Mission College. This seminar featured Internet experts, elected officials and college executives who shared their stories and ideas about new opportunities for doing business on the Internet. The seminar was promoted through Spanish language TV, radio and newspapers and over 200 small business owners and entrepreneurs attended. For more on the forum, see the one-minute YouTube video at
